UFO shoots rocket with beam of light
This is a crazy story that appeared on Larry King Live.

I'm not sure if the video shown is a recreation or actual footage.

UFO near Needles CA
A UFO story popped into my google alerts this morning that caught my attention. With a "new report" that is on youtube. I don't know why, but a lot of this news report looks suspicious to me.
First lets state the obvious... could they have found two "witnesses" that look like real characters in a hollywood movie about UFO's?
Why is this news story being reported on when it happened back on May 14th? I can't see when the original broadcast aired, so perhaps it aired at an earlier time and just was posted to youtube on Aug 1st? It's not clear. (ok, a little more digging and I found this blog post (all about ufo's) that reprinted the story and they have the date of 7-31-08) I have to laugh too at the graphic used on the blog post that has nothing to do with the story being reported on.
Ah, this appears to be the original story that the news anchor George Knapp based his story on. (interesting you can see that George Knapp is known for his ufo stories on his wikipedia entry).
I wonder why Mr. Knapp only interviewed the two guys (who both work at the radio station) and didn't try to interview "bob" on his house boat?
The interview with Bob can be read on the website with the original story where "bob" wishes to remain anonymous. Bob's story certainly does sound interesting, but I have to wonder why was he out fishing at 3am!?
Other than a few questionable eye witness accounts, this story is interesting. It's sad though that none of it can be confirmed.
Oh, one more thing... the graphics for the news report on youtube were nicely done.

I want to believe

It's been a while since I've posted a decent ufo story. I've seen a few reports but didn't blog them. But this morning, it looks like there has been a recent flurry of activity. This story sounds very interesting, though few details are there. Police in Wales gave chase to a ufo that apparently buzzed their helicopter. Fox News has a very dry report of this event here... but they link to a more "sensational" report here on the Sun - which is where I grabbed the above "graphic". I at least give their art department a tip of the hat for having come up with that photoshop'd image ;)
Then there was this report on the "tampa bay online" (with video) of a couple in Pasadena who saw what looked like a fireball in the sky. The video is intersting, though not very clear. Charles kept trying to zoom in on the small point of light, and the video camera just blurred out and could not focus on the object. If only people would learn how to usee their video cameras and learn how to use the manual focus. But there is one shot (about a minute in) where Charles zooms out, and then you can get a sense of size and scale as you can see the object moving along the sky with the full moon in the background. Then there appears to be another ufo following it (the article says there was a third also, but I didn't see the video on this).
Interesting stuff.

We're all aliens?
So, a few days ago there was an amazing story on yahoo news about how some scientists got together and performed some tests on a meteorite. They discovered that this meteorite contained the building blocks of life! Some molecules of uracil and xanthine which are present in our DNA and RNA! So, this story has been in the back of my mind the past few days...
1) WHY have I not heard this story mentioned in any other news outlets?
2) This really lends to some concrete evidence that life on this planet may have come from somewhere out there.
3) have WE unwittingly started the life process on either the moon or Mars? ie: We've sent men, and machines to the moon, and just machines to Mars - isn't it possible (probable?) that some tiny cells of bacteria may have survived that trip through space and is now multiplying on the moon or mars right now as we speak?
4) IF this theory is true then (that life originated from another planet), how does this hurt or help the story of creation in the Bible? Can it be justified to fit?
5) IF there is in fact life on other planets, and IF they some day decide to visit this little blue and green swamp of a planet, chances are they are or will be more intelligent than us.
This point number 5 has really been sticking in my head. What would that mean? No really, take a few minutes and think how you would react if you learned that an alien has in fact landed on this planet and is friendly, and is WAY smarter that all of us put together...
Lets say that whoever (or whatever) this life form is that arrives here is lets say 5x smarter than Einstein... How would that make us feel as a species? How many would embrace that we're still relatively stupid now compared to another species? How many would be afraid of the new species then if it were smarter and call it say an "elitist"? What if, before leaving for his or her own planet, it decides to give us the answer to zero-point energy, so that ALL energy is free on this planet - what would that mean? Would we live in a utopia at that point, or will there always be something to fight over?
Just some thoughts bouncing around inside of this ol' noggin.
What do you think?

Australia ufo on google Earth?

This is a neat article I found today... it shows what "appears" to be a triangle ufo over the sands in Western Australia. What's neat about it is that if you have google earth, you can see it too. (Note: google earth is free and awesome!). In one of the screenshots of the article you can see the longitude and latitude coordinates, so just type those into google earth and it will zoom right to that spot. 30 30'36.50S 115 33'52.00E <- you can copy and paste that and it should work. (another note: the same images are not used on the web based google maps.)
My personal opinion... this is not a ufo at all, but some sort of man made mark in the soil. The article claims they are lights at the corners, but I'd say they are light colored sand. IF it were an object that was airborne, then there would have been a shadow. Still, if I lived in Australia, I'd be in my truck right now trying to find that section of land to see for myself.

Texas UFO's
So, I didn't really post about this UFO story when I first became aware of it. At first glance, it just sounded like a few locals saw some funny lights... But just now I got my email update and it's like someone just let the you-know-what hit the fan... Turns out initially the military denied there were any planes in the area (even though witnesses said they saw 2 jets chasing one of the said ufo's). Well, surprise... today the military just announced "oops, we were wrong, we did have jets in the are, we didn't think you were talking about those jets."
You know, this is what fuels so many ufo buffs, is the fact that you can never seem to get a straight answer from "the authorities".
Anyway, I'm curious about this sighting now and found this blog post that contains part of the news article. Jim has a theory to "debunk" it all, but it seems to go against what the witnesses saw, so it sounds like Jim is barking up the wrong tree. (no offense Jim).
I too have seen the flares that Jim talks about, and I admit, when I first saw them they freaked me out! But after about 5 minutes of watching them, and realizing that we were near an air force base, we realized they were flares.
The thing that interests me about these sightings too, is that one of the witnesses is/was a pilot. You'd think a pilot might be able to tell the difference between a military jet and a ufo.
Interesting story though.

Another UFO
Wow, the UK seems to be a hotbed of ufo activity lately...
WHERE are the photos though? (The one shown for the article is just a photo and not a photo of the actual ufo seen). If you can stand there for 15 minutes to watch a craft go by, doesn't that give you time to run in the house and grab your camera?
article here on "express and star"
PS> At least they dropped the "Dorito" name of this ufo and are now calling it an "arrowhead". Again, what's wrong with just "triangular"? oh well.

Best UFO photo ever?

That was the headline for this news article, so I had to take a look. (thesun.co.uk)
Immediately, I thought - It's a bird. Probably a Kingfisher if I had to guess, but I don't know if kingfishers are in Britain.
But here's the part that gets me... as a photographer, the whole idea is that you are looking at what you are taking a photo of, yet Kevin Barbery claims he never saw it when he was taking the photo. Cmon... I mean it's in the center of the shot, how could you not see it? Unless it were a bird (or bug?) that flew into the frame at the last minute that is.
Sorry Kevin, I'm not buying this one.
PS> Happy New Year everyone!

mystery UFO in the UK

No this is not another "Dorito UFO" that was spotted a month or so ago that I posted about earlier. (And, never heard anything more about so I guess it's another "unsolved" mystery).
This one is from a guy named Harry Hughes where he and his wife saw some strange lights in the sky after their Christmas dinner. The article (here) is in the "Flintshire Standar" and mentions video that was posted on the "Evening Leader"... I went to that website, and oddly enough it's the exact same article, and I could not find any video. It's odd to because the website design is identical as well, so either the Flintshire Standard and Evening Leader are sister publications, or one is stealing from the other :)
Here's a teaser quote:
Harry said: "They had been travelling west, but then they began to change direction one by one and started heading north. They were travelling at a high speed when they began to go north and were slanting upwards.
Note: Do they spell "Travelling" different in the UK?
Another Note: It's unclear if the photo is actually from Harry or from a different sighting earlier this year.

"Dorito" UFO followup
Just a small follow up on the UFO spotted in Britain a few days ago... Since the news paper published the first account others are now calling in with similar stories. Interesting stuff... I tried quickly to find some footage or other photos and nothing so far. More are expressandstar.com.

UFO in Britain

I just got an email from my google news watch for UFO's and this one sounds promising... I'm not sure why they are saying that it's a "Dorito" UFO and not just a "Triangle" - has our consumer mindset been tainted that much that we don't think in terms of shapes anymore but rather snacks? ugh. Anyway, it's a small story posted in the "expressandstar.com" that has several witnesses seeing a similar event. Apparently it has taken place in or near Halesowen heading towards Stourbridge. I'll keep my internet ears open for this one.

UFO in PA
This item has been making a flutter in my "google news" updates for UFO related news. I don't hold much hope for any new information regarding this, but at the same time I'm glad NASA is being held accountable. I had never heard about the Kecksburg incident before until about a few years ago. It may have even been on the Sci-fi Channel that this Wired news item talks about. Turns out it was an event similar to the famous Roswell incident, but with much quicker military involvement (Guess they learned from the 1947 event) so it involved a quicker coverup. Nutshell... Something LARGE crashed into the rural woods in Kecksburg, PA on Dec 9th 1965.
As with almost ALL UFO stories it has a lot of the same elements... Supposed crash site in a rural area. Eye-witnesses giving mixed accounts of what they saw. Military swooping in and confiscating "evidence" - then as usual - denying any evidence ever existed. Then increased suspicious activity from the Government agencies regarding what they were doing there and what (if anything) may have been found.
Good wikipedia article on it here.
I hope to keep an internet ear open for developing stories on this one.
I'm gonna try a new feature of google here too... I'll try to "embed" a map of kecksburg, PA below. If you don't see anything, it's not you, it's probably Google working out the kinks.

ufo followup

This post is a response to a comment my Sis made, but my response comment started to get too long so I figured I'd post it with links and such :)
Her comment:
So here's my question for you. The other night we watched The Right Stuff with Monk. Have you seen that movie lately? Well, at one point when John Glenn is orbiting the earth, he suddenly sees "fireflies" everywhere. There's no real explanation offered in the movie. We found it pretty astounding.
Today I did a search for John Glenn and fireflies on google and came across a few different theories about.
I was just wondering if you'd looked into that at all...
Me Now:
Ya know, as I think about it, I can't recall if I've ever seen the movie "the right stuff". If I did it was when it came out which was in 1983! 24 years ago!? wow.
Anyway, I've not heard this story before, but on first glance I found this on wikipedia...
As the sun rose over Canton Island, he saw thousands of "little specks, brilliant specks, floating around outside the capsule." Glenn had the impression that the spacecraft was tumbling or that he was looking into a star field. A quick hard look out of the spacecraft window corrected this momentary illusion. He definitely thought the "fireflies," as he called the small objects, were streaming past his spacecraft from ahead. They seemed to flow by slowly but did not seem to be coming from any part of the spacecraft. As Friendship 7 moved into brighter sunlight, the "fireflies" disappeared. They were probably small ice crystals venting from onboard spacecraft systems.
Next I found this discussion on imdb (You might have to register to read the comments)...
One of the theories is that it was the Constellation Urion... as in, they did what's called a "urine dump" from the spacecraft and that's what Glenn saw frozen in space (I think a trained astronaut would know this though so I don't think thats it). Some on the message board say that on his flight they didn't do a urine dump because it was a short flight.
This comment by "flyingswan" is short and probably more likely:
Well, on the next mission Scott Carpenter got a whole cloud of them when he banged the side of the capsule. Best bet is ice crystals.
The photo I found on this website.
just a couple more comments...
I remember seeing a story on the news once where John Glenn Punched a guy in the nose (I may have the details wrong) because the guy questioned him on UFO's. To be fair though, the guy was acting like a real jerk and very confrontational, and questioned Glenn's Achievements... I don't blame Glenn at all for taking a swing :)
I also saw a show on Larry King not too long ago (couple months maybe?) where John was one of the guests debating UFO's. I don't think John actually came right out and said it, but he gave the impression that he did not believe in UFO's. I wish I could find the transcript or youtube of this because my memory may be cloudy on this. It did have Michael Shermer on too who coincidently was on the Colbert Report last night! (I'm not a big fan of Shermer's as you can probably guess, he is too dismissive for my likings).
Conspiracy sidenote:
During my attempt to post this, the entire blogger.com website just went offline. Coincidence? ;)
I've not had a chance to watch it yet, but I've heard a lot of "buzz" about this video on youtube called "out of the blue" ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdZpRcTBwdA
Speaking of UFO's, the scifi channel has a video of one of the military guys who has "confessed" to handling the strange metallic material to have been found at the Roswell Crash. http://www.scifi.com/roswell/index.php
wow... I guess I had a lot to say on this subject :)
UPDATE: I totally forgot to mention "Sprites and Blue Jets" - now that is some really interesting phenomena... google this "ufo sprites blue jets" and click on the top link for footage. (note: This is more of a natural phenon and may have nothing to do with ufo's).

UFO's in Haiti?
My Sister hipped me to this new video making it's rounds on the intertubes (thanks Sis!). She asked me what I thought (real or fake)... I didn't really commit, but I said it looks too good to be true. I said, that if this footage were accompanied by some other form of ID (other witnesses, different media, etc...) then I'd say these should really be looked into!
Well, it only took a matter of a few days and someone has really presented pretty good evidence that these look to be fake. The trees!
Watch the top video first... Now the second... that's the original footage.
Now watch the third video... it points out what the effects guy did wrong.
Kudos to OriginalDrDil (If he's the original person to make this video).
I saw one comment too in one of the many videos posted to youtube, that said the program used was Vue 6 - could be. There do seem to be some similarities (such as the wind effects in the palm trees) I had hoped to see an exact match in the palm trees of the demo but I didn't see one. (By the way, it looks like an AWESOME program!)

UFO photos

This UFO report came through on my google news this morning. All I can say is that the photos look faked to me only because they seem too clear. Funny, I'd say 99.9% of all the UFO photos I've ever seen are little blurry blobs of light. Finally one comes along that is clear as day, and my immediate reaction is that it's fake. I think the story is suspicious too. The guy took a photo with his cellphone, then came back 4 days later with a better, borrowed camera. I'd be there every single minute, with as much gear as I could find (video, digital cameras, film cameras, etc...) The only reason I really post this is because it's a great fake, and proves that now-a-days you can fake any photo using some desktop software. All that being said, I hope someone follows up on this and interviews the guy, asks to see the original files out of the camera, etc...
In the article there is a link to a message board with much better photos...
There is also this link to the MUFON site that supposedly shows the same craft from another witness in Lake Tahoe.

UFO Crash?
Wow, check out this story... a large (100 sq meter) "satellite or UFO" looking device fell from the sky with a loud "BAM" in a remote village in Somalia. One of the witness says that during the day it glimmers, and at night it "turns lights and speaks strange languages" which can not be understood by the villagers.
I'm not saying this is real, but what a story. Yet it's only one person's account that I managed to trace back to this source on the Shabelle news site. I also know that there has been some falling satellite debris about a week or so ago that caused a stir of ufo reports. Perhaps that's all this is too - but what if it's not. This news coming too on the heels of reports that scientists have recently discovered the first planet (other than earth) that contains water outside of our solar system. (I remember growing up in school, when they didn't even know if there were other planets outside of our solar system.)
I might as well post one other space related news item that caught my attention... It's sad really... one of the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) satellites was lost due to a human error. I can't imagine how that one person must feel to know that a "simple" update caused the loss of how many billions of dollars worth of material, and research and time of fellow scientists. Talk about having a bad day.

News video leaked to web
This story seems to be getting a lot of play in the news lately, with not very many new details. I just found this link to a video on google (sorry, google video won't let me embed in my blog). It apparently was pulled down from another website, so I don't know how long this link will work. It's about 9 minutes. What new piece of info here is that there may be photos coming sometime in the future! What else is funny is watching the news reporter trying to feign interest while primping himself for the camera. Check it out.
OH, I guess I should say what I'm talking about... a UFO was reported being seen over one of the gates at Chicago O'Hare airport, by airline personnel.

Huh, wha'?
I probably shouldn't post anything here but I will anyway. I've been up since a little after 4 am! After going to sleep around midnight. So My head feels like mush right now. I agreed to take my Bro to the airport (and was glad to do it) but getting up that early for me is not my cup of tea :)
The good thing was the traffic was a breeze getting to the airport, he made his flight with no problems. And I got to see a very strange sight for me... I think most of you daywalkers call it a "sunrise". It was actually really fantastic with oranges and reds and pinks. It also lasted for most of the trip to the airport so it was nice to glance in the rear-view mirror and see it full of those colors. I also was up at about 4:20 with my camera trying to take some long exposure photos of the moon through the trees. I'm curious if they turned out at all. Ok, well just a few random posts here...
I stopped by Reddit.com and the top post caught my attention...
Thomas Jefferson did WHAT to his Bible?! I had to know. So it linked to this article that was pretty interesting. I loved the one line where he's writing very eloquently, then pauses and says "nonsense". AND I had this same idea too. I have often thought... what if we took all the "mumbo jumbo" and mish-mosh out of the bible and just brewed it down to a simplified "guide book"? I guess I wasn't the only one. What would interest me is if by doing so, would it be considered a new "religion" or could it be viewed by all humanity as simply a guidebook. And by "mumbo jumbo" (I hope that's not a derogatory term) I mean things like all the begats, and who has to do what to kill an animal, etc... Just turn it into a moral guide book on how to be a good person. Not to replace the Bible, but simply a book that all religions (and non-religious people) can agree on. Nah... who am I kidding... MAN will complicate and screw it all up.
Tesla>
Yesterday, I stumbled upon this link about Nicola Tesla. I have not read it all, but It seems interesting. On a related note... Google has realeased a new section to their many tools... an online patent search. Just previous to this article, I was over on google looking up to see if Nicola had secured any patents. (many claim that was his biggest fault was not wanting to patent the ideas). Turns out I found a couple. It was cool to see the illustrations. I am curious if those illustrations are in his hand, or if he had to hire an engineer. The heat/electromagnetic motor caught my attention.
And more UFO talk>
It seems that there was some funny going's on over at Chicago O'hare airport. Many people apparently witnessed a strange object hovering near the airport. When they questioned the local FAA authorities they denied they had seen anything on the radar and said "it was probably just the clouds". The reports came from pilots! Don't you think they would know the difference between a cloud and a flying object?
