And so it begins...

Anyone happen to catch "Mr. 24 percent's" address to the nation on TV last night? I admit I missed it, but caught some of the re-run on good ol' C-span. One item that "stood out" to me, is the Preesident's suggestion to use new "biometric" ID cards. See... this is how it starts. Everyone (thanks to the media) is "afraid" of all these immigrants flooding in and causing all kinds of problems, so of course, we want to "monitor" these people as best we can - in the name of security - of course. Yet, this is how it will start, soon 11 million people in the USA will have new "Federal ID cards with biometric data (and I'm sure RFID chips). Then the next step, is that we'll have to ALL use these cards so that the law enforcement community can all use the same software. So it's just a matter of time that we'll all be card carrying members of the good ol' usa. Papers please.
In other 1984 news...
An article on boingboing caught my attention, in that Newspapers have been warned from an inside source to quickly go out and buy all new cellphones for the reporters. Turns out the NSA wiretap issue is apparently being used to screen the reporters phones to find out who the "leaks" are coming from.
